Do you know where your children are?

Most likely your children are on YouTube or MySpace.  In this world of technology, it is now rare to find a middle or high school student without their cell phone and access to computers.   Steve Mollman, a free-lance writer for over 25 publications, including the Wall Street Journal and Time, writes about a growing perception that student communication and online collaboration are important 21st century skills, and that many of these skills students will need to use in the workplace or in college. He goes on to say: In developed countries it is not uncommon for students to be wired at home.  Knowing students are more often using technology to communicate, plus using computer to gather knowledge, makes it imperative we as educators are prepared to provide student learning through this medium.

Currently in the field of education, we are trying to keep up with technology advancement.  Most classrooms today have access to computers, and students as young as pre-school are learning keyboard skills.   Technologies in particular have found a receptive audience among educators.  Many use blogs to share ideas on teaching and technology,  says Mollman.  He also points out that many teachers now are ready to kill off the classroom lecture  and get students more involved with learning through technology. Mollman asks the question, “Why fill classrooms with passive listening in chemistry class if it could be better used for practice and interaction?” He points out the need for practice and interaction in the classroom, and says lectures can be listened to at home.

The move toward more interaction and less lecture in the classroom gives online tutoring companies a way to augment the teaching strategies in the classroom. Online educational tutoring companies, like eTutorWorld, are becoming popular with students because an online learning experience can be very interactive and exciting.  Because of the technology involved, eTutorWorld can perform as a  class within a classroom  by bringing the same curriculum taught in the classroom to the student in a different and more personal way.  We have access to local school educational standards and can move along with the flow of curriculum in the classroom.

In addition, eTutorWorld takes online technology to a level beyond the classroom, and can provide the needed practice on skills, plus teach skills in a fun technical environment.   Offering educational services where children naturally want to assemble, makes it more likely students will find online tutoring a rewarding experience and a way to achieve better scores in the classroom.  Plus students can receive the support they need and be served by tutors they can trust, like a classroom teacher.

The goal of eTutorWorld is to offer tutoring as an after-school activity, as well as during the summer months, so those students needing additional help or to students who want to get ahead in their school classes.   Tutoring can be a year-round support.  Reaching to the wider community through after-school and summer programs can benefit entire families by keeping students involved in their own education.  This inexpensive and easy-to-use offering is increasingly making inroads in education, and eTutorWorld offers both free and paid-for versions of their product.  We engage, support and recognize individuals and organizations working to help young people succeed.

Kids in grades 5 and above definitely need help during off school hours in subjects like Chemistry, Physics and Maths…and some have SAT preps too. It’s great to find that online tutoring is affordable and secure - helping the kids keep up with their daily work too.

Its heartening to note that teachers have also felt the need to impart knowledge away from the regular classroom scenario. Online tutors can be mentors too…because of the personalized teaching methodology followed.
