Grammar are ‘not’ the rules of a language. As using the word "rules“ would mean that the rules came even before the language itself. However, most languages did not start like that. No commonly-spoken language has fixed rules. Hence, "grammar" is simply a reflection of a language at a particular time. English grammar is very different from the grammar that Shakespeare knew!
